For more than five years, Acorn Sign Graphics has been helping Longwood University design and implement a phased campus-wide sign program that sustains signage consistency throughout the campus and strengthens the university's brand. These signs are not just functional for wayfinding; they represent the vision to make the campus a more pedestrian friendly environment.

Our Challenge: The goal was to marry the best of the old and the new--to successfully capture the tradition of Longwood University with a new, durable exterior sign system projecting an aesthetically pleasing fresh presence.

Deliverable: Longwood University issued an RFP for the design, production and installation of their signage. Upon contract award, ASG entered an intensive planning and design period, followed by fabrication and phased installation. A handsome ornamental aluminum exterior sign system provides updating flexibility and long term durability. The initial scope of the contract was expanded to include interior sign standards to be implemented as new facilities are built on campus. ASG continues to provide interior and exterior signs to meet Longwood's sign standards.

Something we think is cool: We believe early collaboration with a University Sign Committee was instrumental in the success of this project. We continue to recommend this process for similar projects, encouraging cross-disciplinary membership consisting of representation from the president’s office, purchasing, buildings and grounds/facilities, marketing, public relations, faculty and student body.
